Das berühmte Weingut Joh. Jos. Prüm wurde 1911 in Wehlen an der Mosel gegründet und ist eines der herausragenden Weißweinerzeuger Deutschlands.
2012 in our part of the Mosel was marked by overall rather cool weather throughout much of the year, with some warmer episodes, but no real extremes. By mid-October Prüm was still expecting a predominately “Kabinett vintage”, one with moderate ripeness and rather high acidity. However, summer-like weather surprised us at the end of October and our wait to harvest paid off. The sunny days pushed the ripening in the vineyards tremendously and harvest lasted until November 17th. The vintage was then “crowned” by the possibility to produce an Eiswein on December 12, in Graacher Himmelreich!
Graacher Himmelreich (“Kingdom of heaven in the village of Grach) faced more westwards, little less steep and deeper soils than Wehlener Sonnenuhr, weather-beaten grey slate soil with good water reservoirs
Grapes picked by hand, predominantly single pale, fermentation in stainless steel tanks with wild yeast.
