94 points The Fine Wine Review
The famous wine estate Joh. Jos. Prüm was founded in 1911 in Wehlen, on the Mosel. It is one of the most unique white wine producers in Germany.
Wintertime lasted quite long in 2006 and March brought heavy snowfall. Budbreak consequently occurred by the end of April. June finally brought a lot of sunshine and quite constantly warm temperatures. Flowering started by mid of June, which was slightly earlier than the average. July then surpassed even the hot temperatures of the previous record year 1976 – and brought more dryness. Harvest started on October 9 and finished on October 31st. Luckily, harvest time was dry so the botrytis-affected grapes could continue to shrivel and were not destroyed by rain. The wines possess a very good, focused structure, a strong complexity and a remarkable depth and length.
Bernkasteler Badstube vineyards border on Graacher Himmelreich, but Badstube is more westwards and less steep; consequently the vines face less sun in the morning and they are lighter in the taste; weather-beaten grey slate soil
grapes are all hand-picked, predominantly single pale, fermentation with wild yeast
