The famous wine estate Joh. Jos. Prüm was founded in 1911 in Wehlen, on the Mosel. It is one of the most unique white wine producers in Germany.
After a long winter and rather cool and wet spring, June started to bring more sunshine, and flowering happened around mid-June. Mosel enjoyed a beautiful, warm and dry summertime in July and August, which developed the ripening very positively. September, again, was only average in temperatures, so the ripening continued rather slowly. When picking started on October 23rd, all vineyards had been affected by botrytis. At record speed, harvest was finished on November 11th. All grapes harvested had such high Oechsle levels and beautiful botrytis, that this turned out to be a truly special Auslese vintage.
Wehlener Sonnenuhr („Sonnenuhr“ literally means sundial) most famous and best vineyard of JJ Prüm; deep, weather-beaten grey slate soil, extreme steepness of 70%, south-southwest exposure; wines can be aged for years to express their fine minerality and depth
grapes are hand-picked, single pole trellis, fermentation in stainless steel with wild yeast
