Jahrgangsbericht

Vintage 2015 at Baron Knyphausen:

"2015 was characterized by a long period of dryness and drought throughout the whole spring and summer. This hot weather resulted in the grapes ripening very well, with high quality, however our quantity was a bit diminished overall.

In September, just before we started picking, short but heavy rains, combined with quite warm weather, came in, with the effect that in a few vineyards the grapes burst and botrytis developed. The vast majority of the grapes, though, were harvested in a ripe and healthy condition.

We slightly amended our production process this year and applied longer maceration times for certain grapes in order to intensify the contact with the grape skins and to promote the extraction of positive ingredients." (Owner Frederik zu Knyphausen)

Terroir

Soil: deep-rooted loess and gravel, in some parts loess-loam and clay with sporadic lime inclusions.
