The Estate Baron Knyphausen is known as a Riesling pioneer and cultivates 12 hectares in the Rheingau region
It seemed to be one of the most rainy years ever. During the months May to July we had more than 200 l/m² rainfall. The soil was not able to dry out to let us work properly in the vineyards for some weeks. After the rainy summertime we had a very hot and sunny Indian summer. In September we had day temperatures above 86°F (30°C) with the risk of sunburn of the grapes. But this weather improved the quality significantly. The harvest team started picking at the 4th of October and finished at the 18th of October with a very high quality of the grapes but low quantity compared to regular years.
