The winery was established in 1875 by Dr. Robert Weil and is located in Kiedrich, which is in the wine region Rheingau. The estate philosophy, to compare modern style with old traditions, is reflected in the winemaking.
It’s no secret that the 2021 vintage presented significant challenges to winemakers in Germany. At Weingut Robert Weil, they supplemented their normal practices to secure good air circulation in the vineyards with additional canopy thinning, cluster thinning and green harvest. Thanks to the outstanding drainage properties of the phyllite soils on the Kiedricher Berg, the vines avoided ‘wet feet’. Harvest began in the last days of September for the sparkling wines. The main harvest started in mid-October with fantastic crops from the Erste and Grosse Lagen. October and November brought the chance to pick a selection of shriveled grapes in the vineyard. Once again, the estate is blessed to have brought in all levels of quality, including a Trockenbeerenauslese for the 33rd year in a row.
