The winery was established in 1875 by Dr. Robert Weil and is located in Kiedrich, which is in the wine region Rheingau. The estate philosophy, to compare modern style with old traditions, is reflected in the winemaking.
The extreme challenges of this vintage brought out the best in our Kiedrich vineyards. February and March were warm enough to bring bud break in mid-April, but many of the vineyards were hit in late April by spring frost. Severe thunderstorms with heavy hail and winds hitting the middle Rheingau hard, exceptionally Kiedrich vineyards. The grapes were quickly harvested with good must readings and a fine, ripe acidity. Hang times into mid-October delivered grapes with optimal readings for the top dry wines in our best vineyards. While the yields were 15% beneath the long standing they are still manageable.
