The traditional estate is owned by the Eser family and located in the Rheingau region. They´re a member of the VDP association and the CHARTA group.
Vintage 2008 could not quite come up with the quality of 2007 due to the lack of sunshine and abundant rainfalls in summer. We could however harvest very good wines in the Kabinett level and small quantities of outstanding Spätlese wines.Bud-burst started end of April and thus corresponded to the longterm average. May was the sunniest month of the whole year and fostered the development of the vines. The Riesling reached its full flowering on 6th June, 2 weeks earlier than in the last years. The summer months June, July and August brought temperatures which in total were slightly above average, but in detail temperatures rose and fell constantly. High temperatures of 30° C changed with low temperatures of 10°C and slowed the ripening process of the
Riesling grapes. Harvest at the Johannishof estate started in mid-October and due to the rather stable must weights could be finished rather quickly. The harvested quantities of vintage 2008 lay approx. 30 % below those of 2007. In general we harvested healthy grapes producing harmonious Rieslings with charming fruit flavors.
