For the winemakers, 2016 was a year with mixed emotions. The extreme and contrasting weather conditions presented many challenges. The protection of the vines during the summer was particularly difficult and required constant attention and rapid action. In late summer, there was dry, sunny weather which allowed a good grape development along with a rapid increase in mass. The patience required to let the grapes mature fully on the vine paid off and the Johannishof estate is delighted with a high quality harvest with aromatic grapes.
Name of vineyard: Klosterlay - named after a former monastery ("Kloster") in close vicinity. In 1824 the monastery was secularized and serves once again as a local church.Deep rooted red slate soil and quartzite. South facing slope
