The Thanisch estate is currently in the hands of Sophia Thanisch, who is holding up the wine growing tradition in the 11th family generation. The focus is solely on Riesling from vineyards in Bernkastel, Mosel. Some of the vines are still original ungrafted rootstocks, which explaines their great rapture at the wine lists in famous restaurants over the world.
The harvest began on September 26. The rain, which refused to fall in the summer, became our constant, if unwanted, companion during the unwanted, companion during the harvest. We often had to interrupt the harvest to prevent the grapes from being brought wet to the winepress wet.
Due to the rains during the harvest, the bulk of our wines will be in the range of quality and cabinet wines. Thanks to careful selection during the harvest and before pressing, we also have late harvests and selections, but in manageable quantities. The abundant sunshine has given the wines an attractive fruitiness. What stands out is the purity, as rot was not an issue. The fruit sweetness harmonizes with a ripe acidity that does not dominate but is harmoniously integrated acidity. The 2022 vintage will provide much drinking pleasure.
