Zeller Schwarze Katz is one of the most memorable vineyard names in the Mosel area. The legend about the black cat, that launched a famous wine in Germany is unique. In 1863, two wine merchants decided their wine purchase trough a black cat, which crept into the cellar and leaped up onto one of the barrels.
Harvest was the earliest ever and the smallest in volume for half a century. The April frosts affected almost a third of the region´s vineyards. The summer brought warm, dry weather, heavy rain, and isolated hailstorms. Picking started in mid-September. Riesling grapes harvested later were able to profit from the favorable weather conditions in the second half of September. This resulted in good must weights and fruit acidity levels.
