Vintage report

The early summer was sunny and dry with optimal flowering and rainfall in July and August ensured a good water supply to the soil. The precipitation led to an increase in berry size, which was then relativized by the warm September temperatures. The grape harvest in Rheinhessen was swift and concentrated this year. The harvest was completed at the end of September. The reason for the turbo-autumn was not least the sometimes quite warm night temperatures in September. Regional hailstorms in the Wonnegau region and the weather-related risk of rot initially made for a difficult start for some grape varieties. The harvest was started early in the morning or even at night in order to get the grapes into the cellar as cool as possible. Cooling the musts played an important role in order to control the course of fermentation for an optimal aroma yield.
